Can Doctors Attend To An Emergency Situation Without Collecting Money
An emergency health situation usually requires urgent actions to be taken, this is especially when saving human life is involved. Some hospitals have a standard procedure regarding treatments of patients. Over 80% of medical centers won’t attend to patients until an initial deposit is made. Some critical situations may require operation but, if a patient is not financially viable he may not be attended to. It is some times difficult to imagine patients who would have survived a critical accident to die because they couldn’t pay their bills. Such has been the case in most hospitals across the world.
In 2017, there was a critical plane crash that took place in a certain developing nation. This plane took off around 11 pm from the airport and just 5-minutes later, three out of the four engines all failed. All attempts to get it to land failed, they crashed near a government military hospital in the nation’s headquarters. A total of 128 passengers died while the remaining 5 who were still gasping for life were rush to that hospital. Among the survivors was a top government politician who was traveling on an official assignment to Europe, two pilots, a religious leader, and a 23-year-old student.
This student was traveling to Spain to see the sick mother who was in a critical health condition; doctors had given just a few days to live. Unfortunately, she died a few hours after the plane crash took place. Rushing them to the hospital, all wounded passengers were identified, a top government official alongside two pilot were given urgent attention. The military hospital was indeed a renowned medical center specialized for handling of urgent cases. They had a team of professionals who were trained in some best universities in Europe and America.
According to their policy, no patient is to be treated or giving any attention unless an initial deposit is made. Depending on the gravity of the case, some required $500 to $1000 while critical cases that involved operation needed at least $2000 before any treatment could commence. The politician alongside others was already undergoing attention except for this young lady. She couldn’t raise the deposit of $1000 that was requested to carry out bone surgery. The only person who would have been of assistance to her just died. Martha’s mother passed on a few hours after the crash in Spanish hospital.
She was placed on oxygen while waiting for deposit to be made. Unfortunately, nobody came to rescue this student, a few hours later Martha died without getting any further attention. Martha was a final year medical student in the university who was to graduate one week before they had the plane crash. The dead of Martha created an uproar for several months in the country with students of the university protesting. To end this protest, the government instructed state hospitals to attend to all emergencies if the victim can’t afford his medical bills. Finally, the cost of attending to major emergencies was reduced by %50 in all state medical centers.
